CDC Announces Government Lead of 5 A Day Program
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced its new role as lead agency for the federal government’s 5 A Day for Better Health Program. CDC is assuming the role previously held by National Cancer Institute. The transition comes following growing scientific evidence that increased fruit and vegetable consumption provides health benefits far beyond cancer prevention. As the lead federal agency, CDC will help guide the science behind the 5 A Day program, as well as provide training, technical assistance, development and dissemination of resources and materials to state 5 A Day program coordinators.
For more information, go to CDC's 5 A Day web site, where you'll find lots of cool information like the fruit and vegetable of the month and a downloadable brochure on using fruit and vagetables to manage weight.
