Soldiers immunized through FEDS_HEAL with the meningococcal vaccine may need to be re-vaccinated

Aventis Pasteur is initiating a voluntary recall of Menomune 7-A/C/Y/W-135 single dose vials, lot numbers UB040AA, UB040AB, UB070AA and UB096AA in five dose packages.

The potency test indicates that this vaccine may not be effective against disease caused by serogroup A. Soldiers that were immunized through FEDS_HEAL with the meningococcal vaccine (since January 2001) may need to be re-vaccinated. If your unit requested the meningococcal vaccine as a part of a mass immunization request then you should contact the FEDS_HEAL Program Office 800-666-2833 x159 or x119 (immunization department) to see if your unit was affected in this recall. If you did not request meningococcal immunizations then this would not apply to your unit.
