If you use tobacco, the very best thing you can do for your health is quit. While tobacco use is declining in the US, nearly 1 in 5 teenagers (4.3 million) and adults (46 million) smoke cigarettes, cigars, and pipes.1 Smoking remains the leading preventable cause of death in the US, causing nearly a half million deaths annually. In addition, about 8 million adults and 1.3 million teens use smokeless tobacco. The rate of smokeless tobacco use is higher among teens than adults, and kids frequently start use in middle school.2
